O termo vem de um experimento realizado por Robert Rosenthal e Lenore Jacobson na d\u00e9cada de 1960, onde foi demonstrado que quando os professores acreditavam que certos alunos eram &#8220;superdotados&#8221;, esses alunos tendiam a ter um desempenho melhor ao longo do tempo, mesmo que n\u00e3o houvesse diferen\u00e7as reais em suas habilidades.<\/p>\n<p>Esse fen\u00f4meno \u00e9 importante porque destaca como as expectativas podem moldar a realidade. Em ambientes educacionais, por exemplo, se um professor acredita que um aluno tem potencial, pode investir mais tempo e recursos nesse aluno, o que pode levar a um melhor desempenho.
